Washington, PTI, Tuesday - A Washington-based Sri Lankan non-governmental organisation yesterday claimed that the United States Pacific Command (PACOM) was planning to lead a mission to evacuate nearly 200,000 Tamil civilians trapped in the war-torn northern region of the country.

A senior Sri Lankan Army commander and frontline soldier have told Britain’s Channel 4 News that point-blank executions of Tamils at the end of the civil war in May 2009 were carried out under orders ‘from the top’.
