The blasting of a rock at the bottom of the Colombo Port is being carried out using explosives for the past couple of days while slight tremors have been reported in nearby areas.
A similar blasting had been conducted today (15) morning as well and a slight tremor was experienced in several areas in Colombo.
However, Chairman of the Bureau, Dr. N.P. Wijeyananda, when contacted by Ada Derana, stated that the public need not be alarmed as the demolition is being carried out under the supervision of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau. | 
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau today advised the public not to be alarmed by slight tremors being experienced in and around the Colombo Port area, as they are caused by underwater demolitions currently being conducted to increase the depth of the port.
