Lankan flees with KD 60,000 from Kuwait
[ Tuesday, 26 June 2012, 09:15.28 AM GMT +05:30 ]
A Srilankan expatriate has been accused of stealing 60,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($170,000) from an armored vehicle that belonged to a company in Kuwait.

According to security sources, the armored vehicle that was driven by two employees, had KD 570,000 cash, which the employees collected from various communication companies and banks.

When they reached Kuwait International Airport to collect the money from a telecommunication company, one of the employees went into the airport to collect the money while the other stayed back in the vehicle.

However, when the employee returned back, he was shocked to find the vehicle and the other employee missing.

He immediately contacted the concerned authorities and in-charge officers of his company.

Airport officials surrounded the airport and searched for the vehicle. They tried to track the vehicle through satellite but due to some defect, they were unable to do so.

The vehicle was eventually found abandoned at an isolated area near the airport. However, the missing employee was not found. The in-charge officers counted the money in the vehicle and realized that KD 60,000 was missing.

They discovered that his residency expired one year ago and were not sure if he is still in Kuwait. It is probable that he might have used a forged passport to leave the country.
