Opposition Supports PS Chairman accused of child abuse
[ Saturday, 15 September 2012, 06:10.01 AM GMT +05:30 ]
The United National Party states that they have no objections to Mr. Saruwa Liyanage Sunil, who was released on bail yesterday after being in custody over an incident of child abuse, resuming official duties as Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.

Since they had only 02 representatives from 12 seats, they had no power to change the Chairman, and even if a resolution was brought they would be compelled to remain silent but would note for his re-instatement said UNP PC member Mr. L.L. Srinath.

Mr. Srinath was responding to a query from Neth radio. However, the UPFA says that would urgently ascertain how Mr. Saruwa Liyanage resumed duties as chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha.

General Secretary of the UPFA, Minister Susil Premajayantha maintained that the Elections Commissioner had been notified to declare null and void not only the PS Chairmanship but also Mr. Linage’s PS membership.
Mr. Liyanage resumed duties as Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha despite all these disciplinary actions.
