12 Tamil candidates selected for the Eastern provincial council. 11 members form the Tamil National Alliance and one member form the United People Freedom Alliance were selected to the eastern provincial council this regard.
15 Muslim nationals and 8 Sinhala nationals were also selected to the eastern provincial council. While appointing Tamil and Sinhala national from bonus seats number of Tamil representatives of the eastern province increased up to 13 and Sinhala representation increased up to 9.
