Colombo Fort Additional Magistrate Praharsha Ranasinghe today issued a court order to the Superintendent of Prison to immediately admit 220 prisoners of the Welikada Prison in Colombo to a special clinic and carry out further tests.
The group of prisoners was housed with a prisoner who died recently of complications from HIV/AIDS while in remand custody on drug possession charges.
Following the death of the prisoner, the Court last month ordered the prison officials to screen the inmates for HIV/AIDS. |
