At least 130 stranded housemaids in Saudi Arabia were flown to Sri Lanka early this morning, a Spokesman for the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau said.
The housemaids, who were sheltering at the Sri Lankan embassy in Saudi Arabia over a period of time, were provided with tickets and arranged for arrival in Sri Lanka by the relevant authorities, sources said.
Many of the housemaids had fled their landlord’s homes or had overstayed their duration and had sought refuge within the embassy the spokesman said.
