Prisoners tried to escape from the Welikada prison arrested

The attempted escape from the Welikada prison by three hardcore criminals was foiled when an alert guard fired at them from a watch tower early yesterday morning,sources said.

The three convicts, two of whom were serving life sentences, had dug a tunnel to get out of the cell they were in and had used sarongs given to them as night wear to make a rope to climb over the wall. When one of them attempted to scale the wall, while the other. Two watched, a guard at a watch tower spotted it and fired three shots at the man scaling the wall.

The prisoner who was shot and injured as he scaled the wall was identified as Rizmi, serving a twelve year sentence. The other two were identified as Mole Chuti serving a sentence for murder and Nazlim also serving a life sentence.

During the time of shooting clash was broken out between two parties and injured were rushed to Welikada prison hospital, sources conforms.
