Ameer Ali appointed as deputy minister
[ Wednesday, 19 September 2012, 09:28.09 AM GMT +05:30 ]
The ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance has come forward to nominate Ameer Ali Shihabdeen as the party list MP and also a Deputy Minister to end the tussle over the chief minister issue of the East Provincial Council.

Ameer Ali Shihabdeen, a former Parliamentarian and a former Minister of Disaster Relief Services and District Development (Batticaloa) is the Chairman of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress and also an elected Councilor of the Eastern Provincial Council from the Batticaloa district.

The All Ceylon People’s Congress (ACPC) of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen which won three seats from Batticaloa and the National Congress of Minister A.L.M. Athaullah won another three seats from Digamadulla have jointly demanded that the former Minister Ameer Ali Shihabdeen be appointed the chief minister of the East Provincial Council.

It was pointed out that the two Muslim parties were aligned with the ruling UPFA even at the last Provincial Council Election in 2008, President Election in 2010 and in the last Parliament General elections, whereas Sri Lanka Muslim Congress was though an ally of the UPFA, contested the Provincial Council Election alone opposing the UPFA and demanded the Chief Minister post for one of its candidates.
