The import tax on a kilogram of potatoes has been increased by Rs.20.
The tax on a kilogram of canned fish has been increased by Rs.25 from midnight yesterday, the Internal Trade Ministry announced today.
A ministry spokesman said the decision to increase the tax on potatoes was taken to protect local farmers. A kilo of potatoes will now cost Rs.50 while a kilo of canned fish will cost Rs.75.
