In a press release, the CTSU had stated Minister of Education Bandula Gunewardena should provide an explanation as to what necessitates military training among school children and also stated that in occasions prior to this only school cadets were subjected to such training programmes and this is not one which is similar to those.
The CTSU also accused the Education Minister of administering the school according to his whims and fancies in violation of accepted rules and regulations, and traditions. They stated that the students, teachers and parents of students have been bothered by a variety of issues such as the lack of sufficient sanitary facilities.
