50 Tanks were destroyed by LTTE: Sarath Fonseka
[ Tuesday, 31 July 2012, 01:16.27 PM GMT +05:30 ]
Former Army commander Sarath Fonseka stated with the support of 80 tanks Lankan forces began their war against LTTE in the country. However 50 tanks were destroyed by the LTTE attacks and at the end army was able to save only 30 tanks said the commander.

During an interview with Colombo base English media former army commander went on to say, Since end of the war with the LTTE I ordered to purchase 200 million dollar worth of weapons towards country.

This order was legally accepted by the previous agreements. When I commence the war Lankan army owns only 80 tanks with their position. End of the war we were able to save 30 tanks.

They did no grant permission to repair the tanks. Due to this on the last stage of war we did not use any tanks. End of the war we were forced to protect our base. On this time I have decided to purchase 200 million worth of armoured vehicles towards country.

As an army commander this was my duty. I’m not satisfied with security provided by the 15 police men. I face threats from LTTE said Sarath Fonseka.
