CID raided office of leading media organizati​on in Colombo

Group of unidentified persons carrying out a raid at the premises where the Lanka Mirror Website and the Sri Lanka X news website carryout their operations, sources said.

The premises of the media unit being searched by some of Officers.“The Search warrant they posses is for the premises and has no mention of the websites. However they are not telling us what they are searching for,” he said.

It's unable to contact the staffs at the office. According to the sources these officials from the CID unit. SriLanka mirror which operates in all three languages registered in the government information department.

The CID is presently carrying out a raid at the premises where the Lanka Mirror Website and the Sri Lanka X news website carryout their operations, UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera said.

He said that the premises located at Mahindananda Road, Pitta Kotte is being searched by some 20-25 CID Officers.

“The Search warrant they posses is for the premises and has no mention of the websites. However they are not telling us what they are searching for,” he said.

He further added that he had information to suggest that a group of people have also surrounded the home of the Editor of the Lanka Mirror Ruwan Ferdinand, located in Narahenpita.

Nine people were arrested and seven computers including a personal lap-top were taken into custody by the CID from the Lanka Mirror office in Etulkotte this evening.

The CID also inspected the residence of the Editor of Lanka X, the official website of the UNP’s communication wing, Ruwan Ferdinandz in Narahenpita.

Four CID officials were present at the residence of the editor. They inspected the lap-tops and took statements from a few individuals present.

Office was also sealed by the CID officials.

However, the police said only two people were taken into custody from the Sri Lanka Mirror office.
