A fire had erupted at the Badulla office of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) at around 1.30 am today (15).
However, the fire brigade of the Badulla Municipal Council and the Badulla Police had managed to quell the fire, which had already destroyed documents, several computers and other office equipment.
The office in question is said to be responsible for the issuing of mining permits, sand transportation permits, carrying out raids, geological surveys and gemming in the Badulla and Nuwara Eliya Districts.
The cause of the fire has not been identified yet, Badulla Police said.
