Monk forcibly take over the statue of Vinayagar from kovil at Ampara

Panamai Chiti Vinyakar kovil is the most important religious site for more than two hundred Tamil people residing in the Amapara district.

During the recent Kumbabishekam event new Vinayagar statue has been kept in the front hall of the kovil and the new statue of the Vinayagar has been kept inside.

Buddhist monk in the area has taken steps to take away the Vinyagar statue from the kovil. Hindu people in the area informed Panamai police this regard and urge to stop this illegal activity.

Area residents also informed parliamentarian C.Yogeswarn this regard. Parliamentarian contacted the Army commander of the Panamai military camp and urges to stop this illegal activity.

However this Buddhist monk continuously made various threats against the Hindu kovil and people. Area residents took various steps to protect the statue of the kovil. With the support of some military personals from the Kytes area monk have forcibly entered to the kovil has take over the statue from the kovil premises.

People thoroughly condemn this activity and urge the government to take legal action this regard.

Parliamentarian C.Yogeswaran has sent special letter towards prime minister and the minister of religious affairs D.M.Jayaratne to protect the religious rights of Hindu people in this area.
