Incidents of rabies is on the rise, claimed the Colombo Municipality adding that it was widely spread through the stray dog population, Colombo base english newspaper reports.
Latest reports said, nearly 10 dogs that haunted the Ranmuthu Hotel and Crescat Apartment area have vanished, while a similar number around the Viharamahadevi Park also had also gone missing. A butcher in Colombo confirmed a mixture of dog meat with mutton on sale.
The Police Media Spokesman, SP Ajith Rohana said the police too were aware about the missing dogs, but had no idea as to what was happening. Some eyewitnesses claimed they had seen a lorry carrying dogs in a cage going towards Kolonnawa area last week. | 
As the mystery deepens on stray dogs missing in numbers, there is strong evidence that dog meat is mixed with mutton and sold at mutton stalls in and around Colombo. Police and Animal Welfare Associations have confirmed reports of stray dogs going missing all over Colombo.
