Arrested protesters claim the police assaulted them

Four of the individuals who were taken into police custody for protesting opposite the Thambuththegama police station and subsequently released on bail, have been admitted to the Thambuththegama Hospital.

The Police Media Spokesperson's office stated that these individuals charge that the police had assaulted.

Eighteen suspects who were taken into police custody in connection with the incident were released on bail after being produced before the Thambuththegama Magistrate's Court.

The suspects were released on a surety of 100,000 rupees each.

A group of area residents engaged in a protest recently, where residents objected against the decisison to release on bail, the suspect connected to a fatal motor accident in the area.

The group of protesters hurled stones at the police, while the police used tear gas to control the protestors, some of whom were later arrested.
