Meanwhile, trade union leaders warn that they are prepared to take stern trade union actions adding more demands after the 22nd if the government does not withdraw the decision to increase electricity tariffs today (21st).

Trade union leaders at a press conference held at Hotel Nippon yesterday (20th) stated the government, by not considering their demand to withdraw the increased electricity tariffs, makes way to carry out a massive trade union action with more demands such as lands for houses for estate sector, a pension scheme for the private sector and salary increments on par with the spiraling cost of living.

The government is attempting to sabotage the strike action by arbitrarily and illegally intimidating employees which shows how panic stricken the government is said the President of Inter Company employees union Wasanthe Samarasinghe.
